A 32-0 win was the final outcome as Bayside Ravens juniors defeated Gold Coast Manta Rays in Round 4. After a bye last round to try and iron-out
some wrinkles, the Ravens showed some improvement to score a strong victory.
Captain Michail Kressibucher opened scoring for the Ravens, taking a punt 50 yards for the opening score. Matt Eddie caught a pass for the 2 point
conversion.
Linebackers Kieran Ward and Calum Anderson had big games on defense for the Ravens, shutting down any run game by the Rays. The Manta Rays did have
some success passing, but the Ravens safeties ensured no-score resulted.
QB Phil Cottis ran in the second score of the game, soon after hitting RB Jameson Clifton on a swing pass for the third score and a 20-0 halftime
lead. After the break, Clifton added his second score with a short run before WR Todd Stein scored in the corner on a nice pass from Cottis.
In the senior game a strong start had the Ravens challenging the Bears, the scoreline at 6-6 with one second remaining in the first half.
Unfortunately, the last play of the half was a score to the Bears and saw the Ravens fade in the second to give the Bears a 34-6 win.
The Ravens sole score was a pass to WR Matt Nugent. Rookie WR Calvin Young made some nice catches in only his second game. Kudos to the
Ravens 'Big men' who played both ways throughout the game.
Both teams will enjoy the bye week before taking on current ladder leaders Stingrays in seniors and co-leaders Bears in Juniors. This will
mark the first home game of the season for the Ravens at Judy Holt Park.

during the tour, the team will take in an NFL Pre-season game and tour USC campus.
Bayside Ravens wish the boys all the best for the trip and trust you will have a great experience on and off the field.

It wasn't the follow up that was hoped for after last weekend's impressive showing. A disappointing performance from the Ravens allowed the
Cougars to take a 40-7 win in a game the Birds would like to forget.
Missed opportunities, turnovers, penalties and allowing big plays all contributed to the final result, with the Cougars taking full advantage
to register their first win of the season.
The Ravens points came on a pass to WR Matt Nugent from QB Steve Box in the second quarter, but both offense and defense head back to training
with plenty to work on ahead of next weekend's clash with the Bears.
The junior Ravens had the bye.

Bayside Ravens seniors scored their first win of the season on Saturday winning a physical encounter 18-0 at Ipswich.
The Ravens scored three touchdowns and pitched one of the more impressive defensive performances in the club's history to shut out the Wildcats.
Unlike last week, the Ravens were quick out of the blocks, scoring on their first possession after a Box to Nugent pass took play inside the
5 before RB Troy Rigby ran it in for the 6-0 lead (TD unconverted).
With the defense swarming to pressure the Wildcats QB and limit running games, the Ravens offense were back on the field and moving the ball on
the ground and through the air. WR Matt Nugent took a short pass 50 yards for a TD to give the Ravens a 12-0 lead. More strong defensive
pressure continued by the Ravens with LB Thompson Sunerton, Safety Shannon Moen and co. repelling the Wildcats attack.
The big and aggressive Wildcats front stepped up to make going difficult for the Ravens offense mid-way through the contest, the Birds unable to
add to their lead until the third quarter as TE Gerrit Johnson scored his first Ravens TD to give the eventual 18-0 scoreline.
Congratulations go to the Ravens and Coach Knight for an impressive victory, special mention goes to the defense as an entire unit for keeping
the Wildcats scoreless. The Ravens now look to build for their match against the Cougars next weekend.

Missed opportunities were the story of the day for the Ravens juniors in the game against the Gold Coast EagleRays, going down 14-6. Offensive
execution will be the focus for the Ravens in their bye week, keen to take advantage of the chances and assisting the defense.
After trailing 6-0 at the half, the Ravens were finally able to get on the board as QB LC Cottis found WR Matt Eddie open in the endzone for the
TD. Defensively, there were some impressive stands made by the Ravens, virtually shutting down the Stingrays running game, but caught napping with
some trickery by the Rays.
With a bye ahead before their next game, the Ravens will be looking to use the time to build on the start made and progress through the season.

Bayside Ravens made a winning start to the 2008 season, the juniors collecting a 20-6 win over
a greatly improved Rhinos lineup.
First game nerves seemed to be on display in the first half, with a 0-0 opening period, before an
awakening in the second half, culminating with David Hodkinson taking a pass into the endzone. QB LC Cottis ran
in the second TD before rookie Josh Servatius scored his first career TD to make it three scores. Defensively CB
Jay Begley took a couple of impressive interceptions and DL Kurt Mahuika was a menace in the backfield. KR Pat Reid
also showed plenty of elusiveness in setting up good field position.
Plenty of work is ahead for the Ravens as they tackle reigning champions Gold Coast Eagle Rays in Round 2 in an early test.
In the senior game a flat first quarter let the Rhinos charge out to a two-TD lead before the Ravens regained
their compusure. Strong defensive pressure shut down the Rhinos run game, and turnovers in the secondary
assisted to limit their offense. Offensively, the Ravens sustained some strong drives, with RB's Sam Hazell and
Harry Alderton getting into the endzone, with Matt Nugent converting both PATs.
The senior Ravens will take on the Wildcats in Round 2.

Bayside Ravens trio Kurt Mahuika, Will Sunerton and Jesse Williams were part of the California Down
Under Bowl victory in their bracket over the past weekend. The lads trained with the team and took
advantage of the great opportunity to play with and against some good footballers, and to learn from different coaches.
